Developing a pipeline of PUFA-derived products from several species of microalgae
This project goal was to develop a robust scientific and technological basis for substantiating strategic and technical decisions for the industrial development of high-value products from algae. This shall contribute to developing the new and sustainable resource algae for the market. The main targeted application was the use of highly purified omega 3 fatty acids (DHA/EPA) as building blocks in modern oleochemistry to gain high-value products for nutrition and pharmaceutical applications. Innovative technologies were combined to take advantage of complimentary partnerships with the best available expertise in the sector in Europe.
Microalgae species: Botrydiopsis pyrenoidosa, Chloridella simplex, Lobosphaera incisa, Phaeodactylum tricornutum, Prorocentrum cassubicum, Raphidonema nivale, Thalassiosira weissflogii, Nannochloropsis gaditana, Vischeria helvetica and Vischeria stellata
