LiMBAC – Lisbon Microalgae Biotechnology Advanced Course

The Lisbon Microalgae Biotechnology Advanced Course, held on a triennial basis, aims to familiarize participants with advanced concepts of microalgae cultivation, paying special attention to scale-up processes, large scale cultivation and downstream processing.

The course is intended to promote an interdisciplinary approach, presenting lectures hands-on practical sessions covering the whole microalgae value chain, from the cell to the latest market trends.

The event comprises presentations from national and international experts in the area, networking opportunities and practical classes with hands-on experience in culturing microalgae, at lab and pilot plant scale.

This edition includes the opportunity to visit ALGATEC Eco-business Park – the largest microalgae production facility in Europe.

Who should attend?

This advanced course is aimed at MSc, PhD or Post-Docs in the biology, chemistry and biochemical engineering fields with some previous background on microalgae biotechnology. The course is also intended to new and established industry professionals seeking to deepen their knowledge and network with other stakeholders in the field.

Facilities

Usually the course takes place at A4F’s facilities, at the Lisbon Innovation Laboratory and at the Experimental Unit for microalgae production at pilot scale.

The LiMBAC programme and visits are aimed to give you the chance of a unique understanding of what real industrial microalgae production is. You'll get to see a wide range of fully functioning state-of-the-art production technologies.

Experienced collaborators are present at all times to share valuable insights into these processes.

All the presentations and the practical sessions are in English. After completing the course each participant receives a diploma.
